4-Stage Reduction Gearbox
Group Project, 78%

What?
Design and fabricate a gearbox with a
50:1 reduction that is capable of lifting
20kg at the output.
Performance is based on fulfilment of
design criteria and measured efficiency
upon testing
How?
To evaluate the most appropriate gear sizes and number of reductions, a MATLAB script was developed. SOLIDWORKS was then used to create the technical drawings to help with the fabrication of the gearbox.
The fabrication process involved lazar cutting and the use of general shop tools.
Improvements we made to increase performace of the gearbox includes adding gusset plates to the gears to avoid wobble and adjustable axle mounts to ensure good gear contact.
Although this was a group project, given my previous drafting experience, the technical drawings were one of my responsibilities. The drawing pack can be found below.

Results
The final product was tested under the conditions it was designed for and held up to the performance expectations.
Testing also included a program used to determine the efficiency of the gearbox, which was in the top 10% of the cohort.
