About Me.

I'm Cooper Rufus, a final-year student studying Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Queensland University of Technology, with my graduation expected in late 2024. My academic journey began with an early interest in studying and fixing machines, starting with push bikes and gradually moving towards cars and other motor vehicles. This passion was only accelerated by growing up with my father, a structural draftsperson, as I began learning technical drawings in my early high school years and doing occasional work during holidays and weekends.

Once I began my university endeavours, I discovered my love for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and have since taken an interest in projects that incorporate both of these skill sets. My enthusiasm extends to the automotive and aerospace industries, where the blend of mechanical innovation and electrical systems creates endless possibilities. I have been fortunate enough to gain industry experience over the last few months with HATCH consultancy, working as a Mechanical and Piping engineer.

When I'm not working or studying, you may find me out mountain biking, a childhood hobby that I'm lucky enough hasn't left me over the years. In fact, it led to my recent employment at Bike Tracks Australia, where we design and build BMX tracks and pump tracks for local clubs and city councils. This position has given me much-needed experience in the workplace and perspective that I'm sure will be useful in my future projects as an engineer.

My passion for the automotive and aerospace industries drives me to constantly seek new challenges and opportunities to innovate. I am also fascinated by the capabilities of FEA modeling and using it to design and improve machine components. Although I have been working with SOLIDWORKS for years, programs such as ANSYS for FEA and CFD analysis are relatively new to me, and I'm excited to test the limits of this software in real-life projects.
